FROM AGINCOURT TO ILKLEY MOOR
Saturday 13th Ocober 2018, 7.00 pm – At Bramley Parish Church Admission £10; information from 01483 892645
In this talk , ably assisted by Josephine, his navigator, engineer and wife, Adrian will take you on another tour through the colourful world of English hymnody. The journey follows a different course from his talk Solid Joys and Lasting Treasure which he gave at Bramley in 2016, but, he hopes, it will be equally diverting.
Who moved the Pulpit?
From the earliest times to the present day churches and the design of their interior have reflected the changing demands of liturgy and the theological beliefs underlying them. Adrian will be illustrating his talk with pictures showing the changing designs and positions of the altar, font, chancel screen, choir stalls, pulpit and pews in the English parish church.
Solid Joys and Lasting Treasure
Lecture first given at the Guildford International Music Festival, 2005
In this talk, ably assisted by Josephine, his co-pilot, DJ, pianist and wife, Adrian will conduct you on a brief tour of English hymnody, from the 16th to the 20th century. On the way he will take you on a few curious, but not entirely irrelevant, digressions into secular melody, giving you a chance to hear again the incomparable Ella Fitzgerald, the wonderful Owen Brannigan and, not least, the astonishing Binnie Hale, as she invites us to kick away the blues and ‘spread a little heppiness’.
Adrian and Josephine are available to give this talk to your organisation. Fee negotiable. For more information contact Adrian on email@example.com
